Recently, a non-profit organization called One Day To Remember reached out to me looking for a photographer to donate a thirty minute family session in San Diego.

On Day To Remember’s Mission

The organization’s mission is to serve children who have a parent battling advanced-stage cancer.

They do this by providing them with one fun, cost-free day to enjoy making memories together as a family. They provide personalized and meaningful moments that bring joy, comfort, and lasting memories to those in their final stages of life. Through the support of volunteers, donors, and community partners, One Day To Remember seeks to make a profound impact by granting wishes that celebrate life and honor the unique stories of those they serve.

Why it hit home for me…

Their mission hit home for me, as I lost my stepdad to cancer not even a year ago. I knew immediately that my answer would be yes.

My biggest regret is not having updated family photos with all of us before my stepdad passed, especially as a professional photographer. The typical excuses always came up: “I don’t like the way I look”, “I wanna lose weight first”, “We don’t have time”…the list goes on.

Social media is so prevalent now that we think everything has to be posted online for everyone to see. But have you ever stopped to think that you don’t have to post the photos? Maybe these photos can live solely in a printed album for your grandkids and great grandkids to look at one day.

I encourage you to book the photoshoot. Even if you don’t feel comfortable. You will cherish the photos one day. Your kids will cherish the photos one day. I promise you, the importance goes beyond a square on Instagram.

Now, before I go on for too long, here are a few photos from this incredibly heartwarming, memorable family session.
