If you’re thinking about eloping in San Diego, let me share a few tips and spots for you to check out. I photographed a private Downtown San Diego Elopement at the County Clerk Office and Balboa park!

December in San Diego isn’t terribly cold! Especially if you’re visiting from somewhere with much cooler climates. It was a little bit overcast in Downtown this day, but nothing we couldn’t work around.

We started photos at the County Clerk Office in Downtown San Diego. This was immediately after the couple finished their ceremony. The County Clerk Office sits on North Harbor Drive in Downtown. From there, you have an incredible view of the skyscrapers, the harbor, and surrounding downtown area.

Around the clerk office there is metered parking, but in December 2022 there was free parking for 3 hours if you’re doing county business. Read more about their parking policies here.

Balboa Park, San Diego

After shooting in downtown for a little bit, we drove about 10 minutes over to Balboa Park! Balboa park is an incredible attraction in San Diego with museums, outdoor spaces, and beautiful scenery. It is also home to the San Diego Zoo! Balboa park has museums to tour, walking paths, and beautiful scenery.

You can learn more about everything Balboa Park has to offer here.

San Diego architecture was very important to this couple! Balboa Park is the perfect place to capture some beautiful buildings that reflect that unique Spanish architecture. You can read more about the history of Balboa Park’s creation here.

Once we were at Balboa Park, we hopped around from Spreckels Organ Pavilion, the Plaza de Panama Fountain, and the California Tower.

Honestly, there are many benefits to eloping! Couples who choose to elope typically save a lot of money, end up celebrating the day privately with either just themselves or their closest friends and family members, and dodge a lot of stress that comes from wedding planning.
