My Life Story Session is perfect for your dream adventurous engagement session. Full of countless opportunity to showcase your relationship, explore your favorite places as a couple, and highlight your love story.
Dana and Jay booked their engagement session with me after her mom found me online and suggested they inquire. Right off the bat, she knew she wanted to split locations and do photos in downtown Encinitas and Torrey Pines – two of their favorite date night spots as a couple.
We started off in Downtown Encinitas because golden hour at Torrey Pines is TOO GOOD to not hit, but also because earlier in the day when the sun is harsher, I can use the buildings around us to create a faux golden hour look.
Let’s take a peek…

We only spent about 40 minutes in downtown Encinitas, and it felt like the perfect amount of time. I probably could’ve had them spend a little more time there, but we were still able to capture a TON of photos there and I didn’t want to sacrifice any of our golden hour time at the beach. There was a great variety of backgrounds and scenery, and we didn’t have any big lighting issues!
It’s a great spot if you don’t mind taking photos in public, potentially have people and cars in the background of your photos, and you’re looking for a cute retro, small downtown vibe for photos.
Included in my Life Story Sessions are two locations within 30 minutes of each other, so we took a quick 20 minute drive south to Torrey Pines for their second spot. We hiked down to shoot at Black’s Beach! You can read about this location and other San Diego favorites in this blog post:
Torrey Pines Black’s Beach Engagement Session

There are a couple key things to note about this spot. First thing to keep in mind is that getting from the cliffs to the beach requires a fairly solid hike. Going down is manageable, but the climb back up can be a real workout for some. The trail is a mix of stairs and dirt paths—not dangerously steep, but definitely enough to leave you breathless. I’ve powered through it quickly and also taken my time with breaks along the way. You can go at whatever pace works for you!
My second heads-up is that we’ll be shooting at Black’s Beach, which is a nude beach in San Diego. I usually aim my shots toward the ocean to keep any unexpected guests out of your photos, but I like to give people a heads-up in case that’s something you’d rather avoid!
The effort is sooooo worth it thought because this beach is usually fairly empty, so we have a ton of space to work with and the views are breathtaking!
